Workers planning more ‘workations’

Many American workers are embracing the remote-work era and maximizing their PTO with ‘workations’ dominating travel plans in 2022, according to a study by Passport-Photo.Online.

In a poll of 1,117 U.S. workers, 67% went on ‘workation’ in recent months to “recharge their mental and emotional batteries” since 2020, and another 94% plan to ‘workation’ again in 2022.

While Zoom calling your boss from the beach is probably not a great idea, the survey did find that ‘workations’ had a positive impact on productivity. Based on the survey results, this trend is good news for employers, and may offer a hands-off way of improving employee retention and performance.

Analyzing how ‘workations’ affected workplace performance, 86% of ‘workationers’ strongly agreed that their on-the-clock getaway boosted their productivity, and 84% were now more satisfied with their job, survey results show.

Looking at how, when and where workers are taking their jobs on the road, Passport-Photo.Online found the majority are taking relatively long working hiatuses. Most took trips 1-2 weeks long (36%), 32% took 3-4 weeks, and 13% took over a month.

With long-term trips being the most popular choice, it’s understandable that the most common choice of stay among survey respondents was with friends or family at 43%.
