The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced  Monday that it cited a tire sales and service chain following an incident that led to the death of a worker in July 2021.

Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Pomp’s Tire Service is facing $14,502 in proposed penalties after a worker at its Abbotsford, Wisconsin, location was killed when a tire he was trying to mount came loose and struck him. The company was cited for one serious violation of standards for servicing multipiece and single-piece rim wheels.

In August 2021 another Pomp’s Tire Service worker died as a result of a similar incident at a Savage, Minnesota, location, according to OSHA, which said that incident is still under investigation by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, which operates its own state OSHA.

OSHA said in its statement that since 2017 five workers in the Midwest have died in similar circumstances as they serviced vehicle rims or wheels.
