Carmakers stop production, lay off staff due to chip shortage

Mexico has stopped assembling 581,513 cars due to chip shortages, The Yucatan Times reported. Data from Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry showed that the industry worked at 63% capacity in November due the shortage. Nissan recently said it would lay off 866 employees at its Morelos plant as it would stop the production of models like the Versa.
