Eighteen percent of people admit to decorating their Christmas trees while hitting the eggnog a little too hard, and 10% of people have reported getting injured while decorating, according to an online survey of 2,050 consumers by ValuePenguin.com.

The percentage of those admitting to drinking while decorating rises for millennials (27%) and Gen Zers (20%). And the rate of men who have done so (25%) is nearly double that of women (13%), according to November survey results released this month.

And while personal liability coverage within a homeowners insurance policy would likely cover bodily injury or property damage after a Christmas tree mishap, ValuePenguin points out that coverage may be limited if alcohol is involved. “It might be best to stick with a steamy mug of hot cocoa while decorating your tree — especially if a ladder is involved,” the personal finance site says.
