Damage from volcano eruption nears $1.5 billion

Damage from La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption is estimated at €842 million ($1.4 billion) to date, as the volcano continues to erupt since Sept.19, Perth Now reported citing state broadcaster RTVE. Lava flowing from the volcanic ridge has destroyed roads, power lines, banana plantations and around 2,800 buildings on the Spanish island.
