Furniture company again cited over amputation risks

A Temple, Texas-based furniture manufacturer that was cited by federal safety regulators for the third time in six years over amputation hazards at its facility faces $250,000 in fines.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Wednesday that in April a worker at MoorCo Inc. suffered a broken finger when the employee’s hand was caught in a machine that had had safety guards removed. The worker was feeding raw materials into a process line that glued furniture parts, the OSHA statement said.

Following an inspection, OSHA cited MoorCo for violations related to energy control, failing to follow lockout/tagout procedures and failing to provide machine guarding.

OSHA cited the company for similar violations in 2015 and 2018.
