Detroit hospital to hire nurses from Philippines to stem nursing shortage

Amid severe staffing shortages as the coronavirus pandemic continues to grip Michigan, Henry Ford Health System in Detroit plans to add hundreds of nurses from overseas, reports The Detroit News. The CEO of the health care system, which has cut available beds due to shortages, said the new nurses would come primarily from the Philippines, where proficiency in the English language is high and nursing standards are similar to those in the United States.
