Chipping away at the reason why people tend to switch dentists, a new survey by dentalinsurance.com finds that for some it’s a matter of being sensitive about what a dentist says about their teeth.

And women are more prone to the touchy subject, according to the results that found twice as many women are likely to leave their dentist as a result of “criticism of their teeth and oral health,” according to the survey results released Thursday. Overall, 10.9% of the 2,000 adults surveyed in the United States said this was the reason they switch.

All feelings aside, the main drivers for changing dentists are costs and being out of network with their insurance company, as 30.5% reported this as the reason for switching, according to the results. Overall, 10.5% of adults surveyed indicated that cheaper prices from another dentist would motivate them to switch practices.
