BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Henri

Insured losses from Hurricane Henri, which hit the northeastern United States earlier this week, will be close to $155 million, catastrophe modeler Karen Clark & Co. said Wednesday.

The estimate includes privately insured damage to residential, commercial and industrial properties, and automobiles

Henri was the third hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, though it degraded to a tropical storm before making landfall on Aug. 22 near Westerly, Rhode Island, with 60 mph maximum sustained winds.

Much of the wind-related damage that occurred in the affected areas was the result of downed trees and powerlines, Boston-based KCC said in its report on the storm.

The storm’s slow movement across the region brought heavy rain from northern New Jersey to southern New England.

Rainfall totals exceeded nine inches in Brooklyn, New York, and Middlesex County, New Jersey, overwhelming drainage systems and waterways. Floodwater inundated homes, businesses, and roadways and submerged vehicles in several New Jersey counties.

Henri was the first named storm to make landfall in Rhode Island since Hurricane Bob in 1991, according to KCC. The storm became a Category 1 hurricane off the US. coast on August 21.
