The 180-day “water emergency” declared for the Parana River by the Argentine government threatens the country’s grain exports at the peak time, as vessels cut cargoes to avoid grounding in the shallow river, Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide reported citing Platts. The historically low levels of the river amid scant rainfall has created trade challenges as the river helps transport about 80% of Argentina’s agricultural exports.
