The number of compensable COVID-19 workers compensation indemnity claims in Florida dropped to their lowest level to date in June, according to a report released Tuesday by the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation.

There were 298 claims in June, down from 749 in May, and a dramatic drop from the all-time high of 8,403 reported in July 2020.

Overall, 44,613 COVID-19 indemnity claims have been filed in Florida, and the numbers have shown a steady drop from January, when 4,169 claims were filed.

That trend could change, though, as Florida is among several states currently seeing a surge in COVID-19 infections.

Through June, insurers and self-insured entities paid $105.7 million for COVID-19 claims in Florida. That figure takes into account indemnity and medical payments.
