Liberty Mutual names Sweeney president
Posted On: Jun. 21, 2021 1:24 PM CSTLiberty Mutual Insurance Co. Monday announced new executive leadership including the promotion of Tim Sweeney to the newly created position of company president.
Mr. Sweeney will oversee the company's three business units — Global Risk Solutions, Global Retail Markets, and Liberty Mutual Investments. He will report to Liberty Mutual Insurance Chairman and CEO David Long.
Jim MacPhee succeeds Mr. Sweeney as president of Global Retail Markets. He will report to Mr. Sweeney.
Mr. MacPhee was previously president and chief operating officer of Global Retail Markets-U.S.
Neeti Bhalla Johnson was named president of Global Risk Solutions, succeeding Dennis Langwell, who will retire at the end of 2021. Ms. Johnson will run the company's commercial and specialty insurance business unit and report to Mr. Sweeney.
Ms. Bhalla Johnson was previously president and chief investment officer of Liberty Mutual Investments.
Mr. Langwell will serve in an advisory capacity as vice chairman of Liberty Mutual Insurance Operations until the end of the year, reporting to Mr. Long.
Vlad Barbalat succeeds Ms. Johnson as president and chief investment officer of Liberty Mutual Investments. He will report to Mr. Sweeney. Mr. Barbalat was previously executive managing director and co-head of strategy and asset allocation for Liberty Mutual Investments.
All of the appointments are effective July 1, the insurer said. All of the executives are based in Boston.
