Reports on Texas’ workers compensation system will be due every other year, under legislation Gov. Greg Abbott enacted Tuesday.

The governor signed H.B. 1753, which cuts in half the frequency of required reports from the Workers’ Compensation Research and Evaluation Group.

The bill that took effect immediately requires the group to issue informational report cards no later than Dec. 1 of each even-numbered year. The report cards compare quality, costs, health care provider availability and other factors.

Before the bill was enacted, the group was required to prepare the report cards annually.

The state House of Representatives and the Senate both unanimously passed H.B. 1753.
