Floods, storm in Australia trigger catastrophe declaration

The Insurance Council of Australia has declared the flooding and storm that ravaged Victoria on June 9 as a catastrophe event, The Australian reported. Insurers have already received more than 6,500 claims, with losses likely to reach tens of millions of dollars. The storm and flooding inundated more than 300 buildings and caused widespread power outages.
