Heavy, incessant rainfall over the past week has caused flooding in several parts of the Chinese province of Jiangxi leading to 380 million Chinese yuan ($59 million) worth of economic losses, Sixth Tone reported citing broadcaster China Central Television’s reports. The floods destroyed 1,700 hectares of farmland and damaged nearly 500 houses as of May 23, and led to the evacuation of more than 15,000 people.
