Connecticut lawmakers have passed legislation to form a task force to study cancer relief benefits for firefighters.

S.B. 141, which unanimously passed the Senate on Thursday, would require the establishment of a committee to examine whether to establish a program providing financial support to firefighters with cancer. The committee would be required to study the feasibility of such a program and its impact on workers compensation and submit a report of its findings to the state by Jan. 1, 2022.

The bill will go to the House for consideration.
