Chip shortage dents South Korean carmakers’ sales

South Korean carmakers recorded a 6.8% month-over-month decline in sales volume to 630,691 cars in April, mainly due to the ongoing global shortage of semiconductor chips that has severely affected car production, Business Korea reported. Carmakers Hyundai Motor Co., Renault Samsung Motors Co. Ltd., GM Korea Co. and SsangYong Motor Co. recorded 3.8% month-over-month decline in sales volume to 135,601 cars in South Korea and 7.6% decline in overseas sales volume to 495,090 cars in April.
