6.8-magnitude quake jolts northeastern Japan

The United States Geological Survey said that a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the Ishinomaki coast in the Japanese prefecture of Miyagi on May 1, jolting regions along the northeastern coast and Tokyo, NDTV reported citing Agence France-Presse. Local railway operators suspended services, including the Shinkansen bullet trains, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
