Public-private partnerships should cover systemic risks: Munich Re

Joachim Wenning, chief executive of Munich Reinsurance Co., has called for a public-private model to insure pandemics and other systemic risks that are too large for the insurance and reinsurance industry to handle on its own, Artemis reported. Mr. Wenning has proposed a model that would have the private sector and governments pooling their resources, with insurers providing a minimum level of protection against systemic risks within a framework of state-backed pandemic risk pools.
