Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Monday extended the COVID-19 workers compensation presumption for emergency first responders and front-line workers.

The presumption, originally set to expire on Saturday and now extended to Dec. 31, applies to doctors and nurses, firefighters, paramedics, police, long-term care workers, home health workers, correctional officers, and childcare providers who test positive for COVID-19.

The presumption states that a COVID-19 infection is work-related unless the employer is able to prove that infection happened elsewhere and now includes new penalty provisions for improper collection of payment for medical services from an employee.
