The Commodity Futures Trading Commission said Friday it has awarded about $3 million to a whistleblower whose information led to a successful enforcement action.

The agency, which keeps the identity of whistleblowers confidential, said it has awarded about $123 million to whistleblowers since issuing its first award in 2014.  It said awards associated with enforcement actions have resulted in monetary sanctions of more than $1 billion.

The CFTC’s whistleblower program was created under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, under which whistleblowers are eligible to receive between 10% and 30% of the monetary sanctions collected.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said last week that it had issued a whistleblower award of more than $50 million to joint whistleblowers, which was the second-largest award in its history.
