Senate Democrats propose public option healthcare

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on Feb. 17 released their version of public option healthcare to create a government-run plan on the Affordable Care Act exchanges to contend with private insurers, The Hill reports. The proposed plan, which is similar to Medicare’s framework, is aimed at reducing healthcare costs and would be available in areas lacking insurers on the individual market or higher premiums due to less competition, especially in rural communities.
