A bill to establish a registry of workplace fatalities in the construction industry was delivered to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday for his consideration.

S.B. 1302, which passed the state Assembly on Wednesday in a vote of 122-26, would require construction contractors to record information pertaining to all incidents in which a construction worker suffers from a work-related fatal injury. The legislation defines “worker” as employees, contractors, subcontractors, independent contractors, temporary or contingency workers, interns and volunteers.

The bill passed the state’s Senate in early February in a 58-5 vote.

If signed into law, the legislation would take effect immediately.
