Here’s something to get you in that loving mood: insurance.

Specifically, engagement ring insurance, a topic covered by Forbes magazine on Monday in preparation for one of the most popular engagement days of the year, Valentine’s Day.

With an engagement ring costing an average of $5,500, per The Knot wedding website, the magazine points out that while insurance is probably last on the list after setting a date and saying yes to the dress, it’s a necessary question to pop to your insurance company.

Forbes urges lovebirds to check their homeowners or renters insurance policies, and then consider whether your current coverage is enough. A standard homeowners policy may not fully cover a lost, damaged or stolen ring, Forbes warns.

“One of the questions you should ask is, ‘I’ve just spent X amount of money on this ring. Can I afford to replace or repair it?’” Bryan Howard, director of product management and personal lines underwriting at Jewelers Mutual, a company specializing in jewelry insurance, told the magazine.
