WhatsApp faces $50 million fine for GDPR violation

U.S.-based messaging service WhatsApp Inc. could be fined up to €50 million ($60 million) for not effectively informing its European Union users about how their data would be shared with parent Facebook Inc., IT PRO reported citing Politico. The Irish Data Protection Commission announced the preliminary ruling and forwarded to European counterparts for review of WhatsApp’s violation of General Data Protection Regulation.
