Biden revokes Trump’s diversity training order

As expected, President Joe Biden revoked President Trump’s controversial executive order on diversity training, making it one of his first official actions Wednesday.

The executive order, which was issued in September, forbade employee training by the federal government and federal contractors and subcontractors that addressed unconscious racist or sexual bias.

It had raised concern that it would upend many companies’ diversity training programs.

In December, a federal judge issued a nationwide preliminary injunction stopping the Trump administration from largely enforcing the order.

The revocation was part of an “Executive Order on Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government” issued by the White House.

Section 10 of the order requires agency heads who are covered by it to “consider suspending, revising or rescinding” any actions related to President Trump’s order.

Among other provisions, President Biden’s executive order calls on the director of the Office of Management and Budget and agency heads to conduct a study, to be delivered to the president within six months, on the best methods to assist agencies in assessing equity with respect to race, ethnicity, religion, income, geography, gender identity, sexual orientation and disability.
