Insurers reluctant to pay pandemic-related BI claims

Ryan Woolley, chief executive of Insurance Claims Africa, says that insurers would be reluctant to pay COVID-19 related business interruption claims despite a precedent-setting South African Supreme Court of Appeal’s ruling, eNCA reported. Mr. Woolley believes that insurers will try to limit their liability by trying to reduce the indemnity period or quantum of payout even though the court had earlier ruled that Guardrisk Insurance Co. Ltd. was liable for business interruption cases related to the pandemic.
