Volcano spews hot ash clouds, prompts evacuation

Hundreds of residents around Mount Merapi volcano on Indonesia’s Java Island were evacuated after the volcano spewed hot ash clouds on Jan. 7, NBC News reported citing The Associated Press. The geological authorities sounded second-highest alert level for Mount Merapi in November 2020 after the volcano’s increased activity, prompting evacuation of thousands of people and suspension of mining and tourism activities.
