BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

8. Sedgwick reshapes executive suite

This has been a year of leadership changes for Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc.

In August, the Memphis, Tennessee-based third-party administrator announced that long-time CEO Dave North would be stepping down and Mike Arbour, former group president of global operations for Sedgwick, would succeed him.

Sedgwick’s leadership changes didn’t end there, and the reshaping of its executive suite was the eighth most read workers compensation article in 2020 on Business Insurance’s website.

Mr. North, who had been chairman, president and CEO, led Sedgwick for more than 20 years, growing it into the world’s largest TPA. Mr. Arbour joined Sedgwick in 2014 when it acquired Naperville, Illinois-based Vericlaim Inc., a claims management company that Mr. Arbour had led for nearly a decade.

In August, Sedgwick appointed Michael Alwyn president of operations in Canada, and in September announced that Jim Ryan, former president of casualty, would step into the newly created position of chief operating officer for the Americas.

In October, Sedgwick announced even more leadership changes. John Stanzi was named president of casualty operations — a position vacated by Mr. Ryan’s promotion. Andrea Buhl was promoted to president of managed care operations, a role that had previously been held by Dan Sloan, who is retiring. The 2018 Business Insurance Woman to Watch honoree was previously senior vice president of medical programs.

Elizabeth Francy Demaret was named to the newly created position of president of specialty solutions. She had been chief of staff and executive vice president of carrier relations.
