Deck the car with reindeer antlers? Think again…

From twinkly lights to reindeer antlers and a fluffy red nose on the front bumper, a car insurance price comparison company is warning festive car drivers in the United Kingdom that such décor could invalidate one’s car insurance.

 

As reported in The Press newspaper in York, USwitch said that some insurance companies may refuse to pay out on claims if you’re involved in an accident because decorating a car is considered a vehicle modification.

 

Decorations — and an accident — could also result in an increase in car insurance premiums, the company said.

 

The Association of British Insurers also weighed in: “Insurers don’t want to play Scrooge, and the odd bit of tinsel in your car is not going to invalidate your motor insurance…. But don’t go overboard and do anything that could impact on your safety, such as decorations that could obstruct your vision, and always make sure that any decorations comply with the law. If unsure about any modifications then check with your insurer.”
