Toxic content could get social media firms blocked, fined

Newly proposed rules will authorize the U.K.’s Office of Communications to fine social media companies up to £18 million ($24 million) or 10% of their annual global revenues for failure to remove harmful and illegal content, CNBC reports. The rules will also allow Ofcom to block social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter in the U.K. for non-compliance.
