The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined nine businesses for failing to protect workers from COVID-19, the agency announced Friday.

MIOSHA inspected and found the businesses in violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s general duty clause, which requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards that may cause, or are likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to workers.

The employers included four automotive service centers, two hospitality businesses, a furniture store, a tanning salon and a signage and graphics company. Fines ranged from $400 to $3,500 for violations including a lack of COVID-19 training, failure to disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and failing to conduct daily health screenings and enforce mask mandates and social distancing.
