Hub buys assets of Michigan railroad broker

Hub International Ltd. has acquired the assets of United Shortline Insurance Services Inc., Chicago-based Hub said in a statement Thursday.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Port Austin, Michigan-based United Shortline focuses on the shortline and regional railroad insurance program and association market. The broker has been serving the shortline railroad industry for more than 30 years, the statement said.

Louis Schillinger, owner and CEO of United Shortline, will join Hub Mid-America and report to Paul Cohen, area president of Hub in Kansas City, Missouri.

United Shortline will add to Hub's growing rail practice in Kansas City, the statement said.

Hub is the seventh-largest brokerage of U.S. business, according to Business Insurance’s latest ranking.
