The Risk and Insurance Management Society on Tuesday said its annual convention and exhibition, slated to be held in Chicago April 19-21, 2021, will consist of limited in-person, socially distanced activities only if feasible.

The update came amid the rise in new COVID-19 cases in many parts of the world and as restrictions remain for large scale events.

“If feasible, we will hold some on-the-ground, face-to-distanced-face activities in Chicago from April 19-21. However, if external factors persist, all educational, networking and solution-sharing components will be virtual for the extended period of April 19-29,” RIMS CEO Mary Roth and RIMS President Laura Langone said in an update to risk and insurance professionals.

Many hotels and restaurants have yet to open their doors to customers in Chicago, the New York-based risk management organization noted.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on our plans to ensure that RIMS 2021, however it is delivered, exceeds all expectations,” RIMS said.

Either way, registration for the event will open in January.

RIMS previously said the convention would be a hybrid in-person, virtual event.
