Chaucer launches Bermuda reinsurance unit

Lloyd’s of London insurer and reinsurer Chaucer Insurance Group PLC launched a Bermuda-based reinsurer on Monday.
Chaucer, which is owned by China Re Group, will write U.S. property/casualty and specialty reinsurance business through the Bermuda unit, the company said in a statement.
James Holliss, head of Chaucer’s U.S. property treaty business, will transfer to Bermuda from London to lead the reinsurance unit.
Chaucer operates syndicates 1084 and 1176 at Lloyd’s. The Bermuda reinsurer will operate as a branch of Chaucer Insurance Co. DAC., a Dublin-based insurance and reinsurance company.
