The Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday it has awarded more than $114 million to a whistleblower, a record amount.
The SEC, which does not identify whistleblowers nor the companies on which they report, said the award consists of about $52 million in connection with the SEC case, and about $62 million arising out another agency’s related actions.
The SEC said the $114 million eclipses the next highest award of $50 million made to an individual in June.
The SEC has awarded about $676 million to 108 individuals since issuing its first award in 2012. The whistleblower program was established under the Dodd-Frank Act.
A former attorney for American International Group Inc. has filed a whistleblower suit against the insurer alleging he was terminated for reporting fraudulent conduct and inadequate controls.
