Indiana draft plan details COVID-19 vaccination priorities

The Indiana Department of Health on Friday made public its proposed plan to vaccinate health care workers first when a vaccine for COVID-19 is made available.

The “interim draft plan” calls for three phases of vaccine distribution, with the first phase divided into two parts, putting those working in health care settings at the front of the line, followed by “vulnerable” populations, such as those with comorbidities.

This group for health care workers is described as “all paid and unpaid persons serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious material.”

Health care settings include, “but are not limited to,” hospitals, long-term care facilities, outpatient facilities, home health care settings, pharmacies, dialysis centers and emergency medical services, according to the document.

Phase two of vaccinations would include “persons living in correctional facilities, group homes or shelters, and individuals whose in-person work is essential, required, and places them in settings where social distancing is not possible and transmission risk is high.”

The general public would be vaccinated in phase three.
