BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Renaissance man ensuring himself a second career

“Insurance Legend Cuts Second Album” is not a headline most of us thought we’d ever see, but here we are.

Jim Stanard, founder of Renaissance Re, and until recently chairman of TigerRisk Partners LLC, has released his second album, “Color Outside the Lines.”

Mr. Stanard founded Renaissance Re in 1993 and in 2008 teamed with Rod Fox to form broker/adviser TigerRisk Partners.

An early wont for music gave way to a career in insurance but never entirely left the 71-year-old former executive.

“I always felt that music was my unfinished business,” he said. “I played a lot in the ’60s and early ’70s, but then I got busy with other stuff” stuff that eventually became Ren Re and TigerRisk.

The new album includes two songs featuring Stanard’s friend Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary fame, and Mr. Yarrow’s daughter, Bethany.

“I was startled by how much the sound of Jim’s voice combined with mine and Bethany’s reminded me of Peter, Paul and Mary,” Yarrow said of his collaboration with Stanard. “It made me proud to feel the legacy of that spirit lives on – especially so, because Jim’s songs carry a similar message.”

“I think the main thing that any artist has to offer is his own perspective,” Stanard said. “My songs are about how I see people and the world.”
