To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

People magazine salutes insurance companies

A magazine famous for naming the most beautiful people annually pivoted this month and named the top “Companies that Care” in an effort to honor 50 companies that have gone “above and beyond during the pandemic.”

And three insurers made People magazine’s latest list. 

Nashville-based Pinnacle Financial Partners Inc. contacted its elderly clients to see if they needed anything, “leading an employee to hand-deliver toilet paper, paper towels and disinfectant to a self-isolated client,” the magazine reported, adding that other team members helped deliver education support materials to employees who had hunkered down with their children when schools closed.

Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Insurance Co. offered employees an additional four weeks of fully paid time off if they or loved ones are impacted by COVID-19 illness. Employees are also given tips for coping with emotional stress, anxiety and fear through webcasts, according to the magazine. The insurer’s foundation also provided $2 million in community grants to 11 organizations helping with pandemic relief efforts, according to People.

San Antonio, Texas-based United Services Automobile Association, an insurer that caters to current and former members of the U.S. military and their families, provided its employees up to three weeks of emergency pay for any COVID-19 related illness or childcare issues. USAA and The USAA Foundation Inc. have donated more than $5.5 million for COVID-19 relief efforts, and the foundation committed $1 million to the San Antonio Food Bank. The company also refunded $800 million to its auto insurance policyholders and waived all out-of-pocket expenses for coronavirus testing, diagnosis and prescribed medication, according to the magazine.
