Root hires former NAIC president as senior deputy general counsel

Root Inc., the parent company of Root Insurance, has named Julie Mix McPeak, the former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, as senior deputy general counsel.

She will report to General Counsel Jon Allison, Root said in a  statement.

Ms. McPeak most recently led the insurance regulatory and transactions practice at global law firm Greenberg Traurig P.A. and helped establish an additional office for the firm in Nashville, Tennessee.

Ms. McPeak was appointed commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance in January 2011 and reappointed in 2019.

She served as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in 2018. Prior to her role in Tennessee, she was executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance.
