A total of $2.75 billion of property catastrophe bond new issuance was placed in the second quarter of 2020 across 13 transactions, according to a report Tuesday from Aon PLC.

“This quarter’s steady flow of new issuances, despite a brief interruption due to the volatility from COVID-19, was a great reminder of the resilience of this market,” Aon said.

The 2020 total of $6.5 billion issued for the year to date is already a 20% increase in issuance over 2019’s $5.4 billion in property catastrophe bond limit placed for the entire year.

There was $3.755 billion of issuance in the first quarter of 2020, data from the report showed.

The total issuance for 2020 is comprised of 27 property and casualty transactions by 24 sponsors, compared with 23 transactions completed by 21 sponsors in all of 2019, the report said.
