Most office workers want staggered workweek: Survey

An overwhelming majority of office workers want a staggered four-day workweek to limit the number of people working onsite during the pandemic, according to survey results released Wednesday by JDP, a Pittsburgh-based company that conducts employee screenings.

Eighty-six percent of the 2,038 people surveyed said they favor such an approach. The survey also found that 31% favor weekly COVID-19 testing for all workers, and 20% say they want daily testing.

Other survey highlights include:

• 69% of respondents say they trust their coworkers to respect their personal boundaries in regards to COVID-19.
• 63% say they have issues being tested by their employer for the virus or for antibodies. 
• 62% say they think people who return to the office earlier will be favored by management.

When asked about precautionary office measures, workers prefer, in order: no handshakes, hugs or fist bumps; a limited number of people in the office;  keeping workstations six feet apart;  limiting the number of elevators;  daily in-person screenings.

The survey was conducted online June 12-16, according to JDP.
