Three contactors to pay $225 million each in settlement

Dutch construction firm Royal BAM Group, German civil engineering company Bilfinger SE and construction firm Ed. Zublin AG will pay €200 million ($225 million) each to German city Cologne to settle liabilities arising from the collapse of the city's municipal archive building in March 2009, Global Construction Review reports. The building, which housed records going back to the Middle Ages, disintegrated while a joint venture of the three companies was working on a section of a metro line underneath. Ed. Zublin and Bilfinger said their insurance would cover the settlement amount.
