BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Axa XL, a division of Axa SA, on Tuesday would not elaborate on possible job losses as it unveiled a series of executive changes and restructured its business into three units across the Americas, Eurasia and the United Kingdom and Lloyd’s market.

The proposed shakeup follows the recent appointment of Scott Gunter, previously at rival Chubb Ltd., as chief executive officer of Axa XL.

Under the changes, some Axa XL executives have maintained their positions, others have assumed new ones, while others have left the company.

Nancy Bewlay, former global chief underwriting officer for long tail property/casualty risks, has been named chief underwriting officer, responsible for governance, pricing, profit and loss, and managing the global heads of business lines, based in New York, Axa XL said.

Joe Tocco, previously head of North America property/casualty, has been named CEO Americas, based in New York, but the other two regional CEO roles remain unfilled.

Mr. Gunter will serve as interim CEO, Eurasia in addition to his overall CEO responsibilities, and Sean McGovern, general counsel, will also serve as interim CEO for the U.K. & Lloyd’s market, Axa XL said.

Brent Hoffman, previously global head of claims, has been named chief claims officer, based in Hartford, Connecticut, while Karen le Duc, who previously held various senior roles for Axa Liabilities Managers, was appointed chief human resources officer, based in London, the insurer said.

Charles Cooper, CEO of global reinsurance operations, Matthieu Caillat, chief operating officer, Noel Richardson, chief risk officer, and CFO Rainer Schoellhammer all retain the positions they have held since 2018 and 2019.

“Axa XL is the result of acquisitions and mergers and with our increased scale, now is the time to optimize our structure by striking the right balance between local and global decision making so we remain agile and flexible,” Mr. Gunter said in the statement.

Meanwhile, Neil Robertson, former CEO for global specialty, Kelly Lyles, former CEO for client and country management, and Paul Greensmith, formerly UK CEO, all of whom were appointed to their roles following Axa’s purchase of XL in 2018, have left the company, a spokeswoman confirmed in an email.

Nikki Gonzalez, former global head of HR, is also no longer with Axa XL, the spokeswoman said.

The proposed changes affecting European entities will be “subject to consultation with employee representative bodies,” Axa XL said in the statement.

Over the coming weeks, the leadership team will be working on the reorganization to define “how we will work in the future,” a spokeswoman said in emailed response. “We do not know what the outcome of this work will be.”

All the executives will report to Stamford, Connecticut-based Mr. Gunter.
