Louis Mastos, former president of AAMGA, dead at 98

Louis T. Mastos, 98, a past president of the American Association of Managing General Agents, died on March 21 in Reno, Nevada, the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association said Monday.

Information on the cause of death was not available. Mr. Mastos was AAMGA president in 1985-1986. He was credited during his term with introducing more structured financial control and creating the office of Secretary-Treasurer for the association, the WSIA said in its statement.

Mr. Mastos served as Nevada Insurance Commissioner from 1965 to 1971, according to the WSIA. In 1971, he founded Louis T. Mastos & Associates Inc. in Reno as a managing general agency and surplus lines broker. It eventually had offices in Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Santa Rosa, Calif.

Mr. Mastos remained active in the business, continuing to make agency calls and attend industry meetings, until a few years ago, the
