The Virginia Senate narrowly passed legislation to direct the state’s Workers Compensation Commission to examine the implications of covering repetitive motion injuries in the state’s comp system.

H.B. 617, sponsored by 13 Democratic senators, prevailed in a 21-19 vote Thursday along party lines. The bill passed the House of Delegates on Feb. 10 in a 55-44 vote.

Virginia is the only state that does not allow for repetitive motion claims, such as carpal tunnel and spinal disc problems, in workers compensation.
