Nearly 290 flights cancelled as volcano spews ash, smoke

Nearly 290 flights were cancelled in the Philippines on Jan. 13 as Taal volcano spewed ash and smokeover Manila and other areas, Business Standard reports citing Asian News International. About 8,000 residents were evacuated from the region following the explosion in the volcano and the president’s office ordered the suspension of government work in the capital.
