A not-so-blushing Santa Clarita, California, woman said “no contest” to charges that she concocted an elaborate scheme to defraud a popular wedding website’s insurance program — twice.

Vermyttya Miller was sentenced to five years in county jail and ordered to pay $22,500 in restitution after she was charged with felony insurance fraud in her attempt to rip off The Knot wedding website and its insurer, Tokio Marine Holdings Inc., the California Department of Insurance announced Monday.

In October 2016, Ms. Miller booked a wedding reception through The Knot website for a popular venue in Glendale, California, a deal that came with a $10,000 event cancellation/postponement insurance policy, according to a statement.

Soon after booking the reception, Ms. Miller claimed she tripped on her wedding dress and was injured so severely that she had to cancel the wedding reception and filed an insurance claim under the $10,000 policy, including her claim medical records.

When she received her check, she claimed it was stolen and contacted The Knot for another one — doctoring a previously submitted police report for a different incident that occurred years earlier, according to the statement.
