Rail workers' strike to cost businesses more than $500 million

Simon French, chief economist at U.K.-based investment banking firm Panmure Gordon & Co., said that a strike by rail workers on U.K.'s South Western Railway during most of December is expected to cost businesses £400 million ($515 million), The Telegraph reported. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union are due to walk out for 27 days from Dec. 2, which could lead to reduction in rush-hour services from 42 trains to 15.
