Club leaves waiter holding the bag as Hermes saga continues

A New Jersey country club being sued by a member who claims a waiter ruined her $30,000 Hermes handbag is now suing its own employee over the mishap, the New York Post reported Monday.
Maryana Beyder sued the Alpine Country Club in Demarest, New Jersey, in October after the club would not compensate her for her discontinued handbag, which she claimed was destroyed beyond repair when a waiter accidentally spilled red wine on it, the newspaper reported.
The club, which she claims ignored her complaints, last week in new court filings placed blame squarely on the anonymous waiter, named in court papers only as John Doe, according to the article.
Ms. Beyder and her lawyer claim they are appalled the country club is going after the waiter— and said they never meant for the liability to fall to him but that they named him in their original lawsuit because they had to, according to the article.
“It has absolutely nothing to do with the waiter, we were not trying to collect any money from the waiter,” said Ms. Beyder’s lawyer. “There was never any intention of my client to go after this person at all. The only intention was to have the employer take responsibility.”
